When the present that you live in, explains History, the Dark Ages, the Nazis, and all the horrible insane human behavior you dismissed as part of a barbaric mindset, due to the primitive minds, and the stupidity of our ancestors.
Guess what? We have not changed a bit. What happened in the past, did not happen because it was the past, and people were less intelligent or knowledgeable. It happened because people had beliefs, and they never learned to exchange, but needed to impose their will and beliefs, or they were scared, manipulated, and so on.
We have, as with every succession of generations, a clash between the old and the young. The young wanting to change the world and the old feeling out of place in a world that has no room for them. It happened when I was young, it happens now that I am older. When I was growing up, horrible things were happening, and we could not talk about them. Sexual harassment had no name, it was just the way things were. It was “men liking us” and it was up to us to make sure they would respect us. If they crossed the line it was because we failed to gain their respect. So, I am for one, very happy that we live in a time when we name things like shaming, victim-blaming, doxxing and such. By naming an action we raise awareness and by raising awareness we change the culture.
But, on the other hand, I feel that we failed to change the fundamentals, the one thing that would make us go forth in the future. I feel we just recreate old patterns with new beliefs that replaced the old.
